PEACHY'S BIG DAY IN ORANGE COUNTY
Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan & Ulster will be joined by Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler to launch a new Youth Substance Use Prevention Campaign. Catholic Charities and the District Attorney will be introducing Peachy, the Prevention Elephant. Peachy represents the awkward topic, the Elephant in the Room, and will be used to start difficult conversations with young people, their parents, and other community members about underage alcohol, cannabis, and other substance use, social host laws, and other important topics in an engaging, non-confrontational way.
Caridades Católicas de Orange, Sullivan y Ulster se unirán al fiscal de distrito del condado de Orange, David Hoovler, para lanzar una nueva campaña de prevención del consumo de sustancias entre los jóvenes. Caridades Católicas y el fiscal de distrito presentarán a Peachy, el elefante de la prevención. Peachy representa el tema delicado, el elefante en la habitación, y se utilizará para iniciar conversaciones difíciles con los jóvenes, sus padres y otros miembros de la comunidad sobre el consumo de alcohol, cannabis y otras sustancias entre los menores de edad, las leyes de acogida social y otros temas importantes de una manera atractiva y sin confrontaciones.
What is the Peachy Campaign?
•Why the elephant? The purpose of the campaign is to raise awareness about the OC Social Host Law by talking about the elephant in the room: underage alcohol &cannabis use. Social Host is any person 18yrs or older who provides the location and or the substance of alcohol or cannabis to a minor. Remember 21 is legal.
•Our data from 2019 shows that youth are drinking at home or at a friend's home with or without parents' permission.
To address the “elephant in the room” we partnered with various coalition members to host Peachy and get the word out about the Social Host Law that now includes cannabis.
•Peachy serves as a visual remind for individuals to not be a social host to underage alcohol & cannabis use and helps start the conversations about the dangers of these topics.
¿Qué es la campaña Peachy?
•¿Por qué el elefante? El propósito de la campaña es crear conciencia sobre la Ley de Anfitriones Sociales de OC hablando sobre el elefante en la habitación: el consumo de alcohol y cannabis por parte de menores de edad. Anfitrión social es cualquier persona de 18 años o más que proporciona la ubicación o la sustancia de alcohol o cannabis a un menor. Recuerde que 21 es legal.
